iOS 17 May Allow Users To Download Apps From Third-Party Platforms

According to recent rumor, Apple will release iOS 17 on June 6. It is reported that one of the key points of this update is that iOS will open the “sideloading” function.

The “sideloading” function means that users can download applications from unofficial App Stores. In addition to users being able to download more applications, developers can also save App Store listing fees.

Currently iOS can only install apps through official channels (i.e. App Store). The opening of the “sideloading” function means that iOS 17 can directly install third-party applications and install applications in the form of files.

In fact, Apple has been opposed to adding the “sideloading” function to iOS, because Apple believes that this function has the opportunity to violate the privacy of iPhone users and threaten the security of iOS, making users vulnerable to malware, fraud, data tracking and other problems.

However, after the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) takes effect on November 1, 2022, Apple has to comply with the DMA regulations, otherwise it will be considered a violation of EU law and the maximum fine can reach 20{9fa2ae831048424756faedea87f44870cd2ea6d09bcfab62eb5dabc6b233e172} of global revenue.

For developers and users, the opening of the “sideloading” function of iOS is undoubtedly good news. The “sideloading” function allows developers to save on listing fees, and the number of applications that users can download will increase exponentially, but users also need to pay attention to information security issues.
