iOS 17 Will Bring A New Feature To The Maps App On The Lock Screen

It was initially rumored that iOS 17 would be a minor update as Apple’s main focus would be on ‘maintenance’ of the platform.

Later, it was reported that the update would bring major changes to the operating system, including a refreshed Control Center and Lock Screen customization.

Furthermore, Apple is also working on new apps to accompany the upcoming update. There is now information that iOS 17 will include a redesigned Lock Screen interface for the Apple Maps app.

According to the latest information, iOS 17 will have a Lock Screen interface dedicated to Apple Maps, providing turn-by-turn directions without taking up the entire screen.

Information shared by leaker @analyst941 on Twitter, shows that the feature is confirmed to arrive with the release of iOS 17 later this year. This feature is slightly different from what iOS 16 brings with real-time directions provided by Apple Maps.

Love it or don’t, Apple doesn’t care – this is the new Maps “Live Activity” for Lock Screen (all iPhones).

– Seamless transition when unlocking.

– View notifications over the map by swiping up as usual.

– shows most Lock Screen elements until unlocked (except widgets afaik). pic.twitter.com/7PUwRUXgVx

The leaker shared a conceptualized image showing how Apple Maps would take up half of the screen to show directions while the rest is for time and widgets. Likely, Apple Maps will become part of the Lock Screen with real-time updates.

In addition, the shortcut to open the camera and flashlight is also located in the corresponding position. It is not yet clear whether users will be able to interact with the Apple Maps interface.
