Twitter Limits The Number Of Posts Viewed By User: Stay Away From Mobile Phones And Spend More Time With Family And Friends

In order to curb AI’s attempt to obtain user data from Twitter to train its model, Twitter urgently announced that it would limit the number of posts users can browse. Elon Musk said that “you should stay away from your mobile phone and see your friends and family more.”

Musk said that because too many organizations are extremely actively collecting Twitter data, which affects the real user experience, Twitter has to urgently requisition a large number of servers. This decision was made to prevent AI from trying to obtain data from Twitter that could be used to help train its models for free, as well as low-level data scraping.

Musk initially stated on his Twitter that new unverified accounts can only view 300 posts per day; unverified users can only view 600 posts per day; and verified monthly accounts can view 6,000 posts, increasing the number of posts a user is allowed to view in multiple increments.

To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits:

– Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day
– Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day
– New unverified accounts to 300/day

Before Musk posted the post, thousands of Twitter users were receiving “number limit exceeded” error messages when trying to connect to Twitter. About two hours later, he updated again, bringing the number of new unauthenticated users to 400, unverified users to 800, and verified users to 8,000.

Last updated on Saturday, Musk announced that the limits of various types of users have been increased to 500, 1,000, and 10,000.

The editor tried to open the Twitter post directly without a Twitter account, but the “error occurred” page was displayed. You need to log in to the Twitter account to browse the post normally.

At present, Musk has not disclosed how long the measure will last, only stating that this is only a temporary measure, but did not explain what factors will lead to the lifting of the restriction.

NEWS: Twitter's web version no longer allows users to browse without logging in. All urls redirect to the signup page.

This is believed to be a measure to make it harder for scrapers to take Twitter's data, like ChatGPT's web browsing plugin has been doing. pic.twitter.com/DbfuAWwS4p
