Tesla To Offer Free Trial Of FSD For All North American Cars, Then To Other Regions If Successful

Musk said that Tesla will provide all car owners in North America with a free one-month FSD fully automatic driving experience package in the future, provided that FSD is super smooth and not just safe. Currently, FSD is priced at US$15,000 in North America.

Once FSD is super smooth (not just safe), we will roll out a free month trial for all cars in North America.

Then extend to rest of world after we ensure it works well on local roads and regulators approve it in that country.

He also mentioned that Tesla is preparing to expand to other parts of the world after ensuring that the FSD can first work well on local roads and get regulatory approval in the country. He pointed out that being safe and smooth is very important to the FSD experience.

Free trial of FSD Beta coming after it's super smooth. It is much smoother these days than in the past. This is a great idea. https://t.co/FUDVTwkrvo

Global Sprout reminds that although FSD is called fully automatic driving, it actually cannot meet the needs of fully automatic driving. At present, the driver still needs to be vigilant and ready to take over the vehicle at any time. Moreover, Musk has not yet provided a specific time plan for expanding FSD beyond North America.

In fact, Tesla has never announced the proportion of buyers who ordered this feature, but electrek infers from data previously released by Tesla that the proportion of North American users is between 15-20{9fa2ae831048424756faedea87f44870cd2ea6d09bcfab62eb5dabc6b233e172}, and it may only be 10{9fa2ae831048424756faedea87f44870cd2ea6d09bcfab62eb5dabc6b233e172} globally.

Musk also did not explain why Tesla will launch a one-month free trial for all Tesla vehicles in North America, but foreign media believe that there may be two reasons. First, FSD is powered by a deep neural network, which is technically still in beta, meaning it requires a lot of data to train and improve.

By rolling out FSD on every Tesla vehicle in North America, even for just a month, Tesla can collect a lot of driving data. At the same time, this is actually promoting FSD and its functions, which is equivalent to Tesla giving you a free taste of ice cream to attract you to buy a scoop.

Since last November, any car owner in North America who wants to apply to experience FSD has been required to pay $15,000 for the FSD kit. Outside of North America, Tesla has been limited in allowing owners to use FSD as it faces stricter regulations.
